Proto Tamansari has been awarded a grant by both EFL Fund and the Dutch Creative Industries Fund


Proto Tamansari, a research project on Indonesian Desakota’s, has been awarded with an internationalization grant by the Dutch Creative Industries Fund!
This project, initiated by Harmen van de Wal, Krill Architecture has a premium core team consisting of Indonesian and Dutch architects: Felixx, Shau, Eko Prawoto Architects, Sigit Kusumuwijayah Architects and Krill with Olaf Gerson.

Desakota’s are areas in the extended surroundings of large cities, where urban and agricultural forms of land use coexist and are intensively intermingled. Many Indonesian cities suffer from issues caused by the vast urbanization of these areas, reflecting the shortcomings of regular planning tools to cope with this particular context. Proto Tamansari aims to develop appropriate planning instruments for the development of these areas. Through a number of pilot projects in Yogyakarta, and by connecting scientific and design-driven expertise during a workshop with an international selection of experts. First results will be presented during a seminar in the beginning of October.
Involved research institutions are Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana, Universitas Gadjah Mada, IHS Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies Rotterdam, Wageningen University of Life Science, UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education Delft
